The Child School

The Child School/Legacy High School is a non-profit private K-12 Special Needs school on Roosevelt Island, NY with an over 30 year history of preparing youths with learning disabilities for adulthood through innovative, smart programming. Inspired by chef and author Alice Waters and her "Edible Schoolyard" in Berkeley,CA, The Child School has created a Gardening program for its Middle School Students. The school strongly believes that gardening has immense benefits for children who are developmentally challenged; it enhances fine and gross motor skills, along with communication and social skills, and offers proven therapeutic qualities to children with emotional difficulties.
